Our Philosophy

Dr. McDonald’s Philosophy

Thank you for considering A Kids Place for your child’s dental home. I would like to take a moment to share my practice philosophy and tell you why I really enjoy the practice of pediatric dentistry.

At A Kids Place, I believe in the utilization of what I call the “parent-directed” approach to treating your child. The parent-directed approach is the process of designing the appropriate treatment for your child based around identified parameters you feel are important to achieving a healthy dental result for your child.

One of the most important things I’ve learned in more than sixteen years of practicing dentistry is that parents usually understand their youngster’s needs best. While the dentist may be the expert on all things tooth related, I often feel that parents are the experts when it comes to understanding specific nuances about their child, such as anxiety, why certain habits may occur (thumb, binky, nail biting), and what treatments their child may or may not tolerate.

I also look very carefully at your parental philosophies, such as your views on fluoride, amalgam fillings (which include mercury), X-rays, diet, etc. I believe it’s important to spend the time gathering this information to ensure that our team creates the appropriate treatment approach to guarantee your child’s comfort, as well as satisfy desired treatment outcomes for your child.

I’ve also made it my philosophy that parents, if they desire, are always welcome in our treatment operatories while we are examining or treating your child. This not only provides a more comfortable atmosphere for your child, but it also allows me to dialogue with you about certain aspects of your child’s mouth as I am examining him or her.

It is my hope that you and your little one completely enjoy your dental experience at A Kids Place. I think you will find that our staff members are exceptionally trained to care for your son or daughter, and that they really love what they do!

We look forward to seeing you and your child at their next dental checkup. Also, please do not hesitate to contact me or my staff if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s dental health.
